Canadian Fishing at Hakai Pass

Hakai Lodge is located in the largest marine park in Canada. Its protected waters and unique, remote location provide abundant fishing and a luxuriously long fishing season. Each summer our guests catch plenty of trophy and King salmon, Chinook salmon, Northern Coho, halibut, red snapper, sea bass, and many other varieties of fish. Hakai Lodge is truly a sports fisherman’s dream location.

Salmon, Halibut, and More

The abundant, protected fishing waters around Hakai Lodge provide a consistent bounty of large specimens of many fish species. The Lodge also enjoys a long, steady season for fishing, running June 10 – September 10 each year.

Salmon runs in many varieties through Hakai. Although it is popular to go salmon-fishing near rivers, salmon actually begin their dying process once they reach fresh water. The salmon we catch at Hakai are weeks or even months from entering the fresh water – and they are in the peak of their life. This makes for thrilling, explosive action once you hook one of our giant King or Coho salmon. Notice the salmon pictured on our site are a bright, healthy silver color. Compare this to the darkish or reddish color of salmon caught once they reach fresh water.

Fiesty northern Coho, up to 26 pounds, peak during August and September. Giant 20 – 80 pound Chinook salmon run all through July and the beginning of August.

Huge halibut are a regular catch at Hakai. Halibut from 20 to 150 pounds are plentiful. Guests have caught halibut over 150 pounds. These waters are always teeming with pink salmon, chum salmon, sockeye salmon, seabass, red snapper, steelhead, sea bass, and other fish varieties.
